Missions Philosophy

We desire to shift from a church who supports missions, to a church (of individual believers and families) who supports missionaries.

There are 3 main goals of this approach:

1. Heart connection to the missionary

Let's face it - it's easy for many people to give a few dollars simply to ease their guilty conscience!  There are many committed Christians who give faithfully and sacrificially to missions efforts around the world, but have no personal relationship with actual missionaries.  They are deeply committed to and love "missions" but not necessarily missionaries.

Our desire is that people would have genuine relationships with those who are taking the Gospel where it's not known.  For our children to be able to be Facebook friends with their children.  To be able to send them a card on their anniversary or birthday.  Perhaps even to forgoe a family vacation in order to visit your missionary friends in __________ and serve with them a week . . .

2. Better financing for God's work around the world.

Jesus was clear that our treasure follows our heart. (Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.)  Missionaries will always have needs, but if we aren't connected at a heart level, how will we be moved to meet those needs?

3. Accountability

For some, giving to missions is one of those things that we give out of our surplus.  It's easy to not give when a month is particularly tight, with the notion, "There's plenty of money in the church budget for that, the missionary won't miss out on anything."  When we give directly to the missionary, there is built in accountability for our commitment.  They are counting on our support, and if we don't give it they don't get it.
